About the Course

The American Osteopathic College of Occupational and Preventive Medicine has developed a comprehensive class that covers the FMCSA core curriculum, plus practical insights to aid providers in performing the Commercial Driver medical examinations.  This class meets the FMCSA training requirements for both new and renewing Commercial Driver Medical Examiners.  The course is open to all DOs, MDs, and mid-level practitioners.  More CME Information

If you are needing the FMCSA-required periodic 5-year re-training, this is free and is accessed through the same FMCSA portal you use to upload your exam results.  After you sign-in, there is a tab for periodic retraining where you will find 4 modules you need to complete before the end of December.  There is no "live" version of the 5-year training - only the modules on the FMCSA site.

About the Registry

The goal of the National Registry is to promote and preserve the highest level of professional standards, training and care among medical examiners. Therefore, the National Registry requires that medical examiners performing CMV driver examinations be trained and certified.   In order to become a certified medical examiner (ME), a healthcare professional must register with the NRCME, complete a training course, and pass the exam.     The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners lists MEs who have been trained, tested and certified to perform medical examinations for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers in interstate commerce. These MEs fully understand the medical standards in the FMCSA Regulations, related guidance and how they relate to the medical demands of operating a commercial motor vehicle.

Once you've passed our course and obtained an NRCME number, you can schedule to sit the exam.  Please note that the DOT will not let AOCOPM, as a training organization, administer the exam.  After passing the certification test, you will receive a medical certification credential valid for 10 years and will be listed on the National Registry.
